A ray of light for the future
Leaving a gift in your Will
Thank you for considering leaving a special gift to support the future of public health in our region.
Writing a Will is an important way to make sure that your wishes are carried out beyond your lifetime. You can make sure that your loved ones are taken care of, and you may also choose to support a cause that is important to you.
As the official charity of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service, Brighter Lives contributes to equipment, training, research and facilities across our region’s public health services.
By leaving a gift in your Will you can help to ensure that funds are here to help, when help is needed.
A gift to Brighter Lives can be general or specific – for greatest need at the time, to tackle a particular health challenge, or for facilities, equipment or research. You can choose to assist a particular group of people or location.
We believe local money should stay local. Because all of us benefit – whether individually, or through the experiences of family and friends. It’s a belief shared by our community, our generous donors and our wonderful volunteers. You can be assured that your gift will stay local, as intended.
Here are different types of gifts you can leave in your will:
- A specific amount of money or a specific item.
- A percentage of your estate.
- The residual – or remaining – value of your estate after specific gifts are allocated.
- A percentage of the residual value of your estate after specific gifts are allocated.
General purpose vs specific purpose gifts
- You may wish to leave a gift for a specific facility or location (e.g. Palm Island or Richmond).
- You may wish to leave a gift for a specific cause or health issue (e.g. cardiac, palliative care).
Because the health service will change over time we do request that gifts not be overly specific – for example you may want to leave a gift for a cause that no longer exists in the future. We invite you to discuss your wishes with us at anytime.
