Not-A-Ball - meet Seb, aka DJ DreadJuan
Brighter Lives Not-A-Ball (a ball, without the boring stuff!) is fundraising for a new laser to treat North Queensland children who have experienced burns.
With a fun Carnivale theme, Not-A-Ball will have amazing entertainment, delicious food and all the dancing your feet can handle – all fundraising to get the new laser here to treat NQ children.
So many wonderful entertainers have volunteered their time to make this event magical. The 1RAR band will keep guests dancing to their amazing music, LV Dance and Global Dance Collective will show us their dance moves, and DJ DreadJuan will finish the night off with a bang.
DJ DreadJuan, otherwise known as Juan Sebastian Martines, jumped on board to help Brighter Lives fundraise at Not-A-Ball, volunteering his incredible DJ skills to get guests dancing.
Sebastian was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in his kidney, which then unfortunately spread to other organs. After spending a lot of time in the waiting room at the Cancer Centre in Townsville, Sebastian had a great appreciation of the Brighter Lives volunteers who helped make the time waiting comfortable with conversation and cups of tea.
“When I heard that Brighter Lives were doing a fundraiser to raise money for this new laser for kids with burns, I was more than happy to provide my services. I’ve been DJ’ing for over 10 years, doing lots of different events. I’m going to bring energy to Not-A-Ball and great vibes to get people dancing,” he said
“Being a father of two, a 6 year old and 4 year old and thinking about if something were to happen to them and they experienced burns, we would love to know that we had this laser here. Not just for my kids, for all kids from all over North Queensland to make sure they received this treatment.”
Sebastian’s recent results showed no current evidence of cancer in his shoulder and he’s hoping that he can be cancer-free by his next set of tests.
With a new dual-wavelength laser, 200 children can be treated here in Townsville each year, keeping families closer to home. Laser treatment helps with burns scarring by reducing the thickness and helping reduce discolouration associated with burns. Not only that, the laser also means much faster wound healing time, getting kids back to normal life much sooner.
Tickets to Not-A-Ball are $105 per person which includes substantial canapes all evening, great entertainment including DJ Dreadjuan and a drink on arrival.
