Brighter Lives hosted our Giving Day on Thursday 18 February. We aimed to raise our highest target yet, $120,000 in one day of giving. The campaign featured Kartia Hankin, 12 years old, who at 10 days old was diagnosed with aortic coarctation and was flown to Brisbane for open-heart surgery. Kartia receives ongoing treatment here in Townsville and was an inspiring face and story for our Giving Day campaign.

We achieved our target of $120,000 just after 5 pm on the day and the final tally is in. Thanks to our community, we have raised over $147,000!!!!

We had some great teams fundraising on the day, both THHS and external champions including some great volunteers in our HQ – special thanks also to Karyn and Team Hope.

Our champions lived up to their names, with Caro and Kingi (The Block) raising over $35,000 for the Oncology Day Unit, Radiation Oncology Nursing and Admin through an awesome raffle raised $4,152 and to the Oncology Day Unit team that raised $5,798 through raffles, fundraising and a burpee for every $1 raised (which was very popular) with over 400 burpees on the day.  Richmond is well out in front with a MASSIVE $36,838, which of course will stay at Richmond Health Service to enhance and support lifesaving public health.

It just goes to show that with such a year as 2022, that community is truly everything!
