A bright new name for Townsville Hospital Foundation

Townsville Hospital Foundation will launch a new name for itself today: Brighter Lives Here For You Here For NQ.

CEO Tanya Busoli said that the new name reflects the impact on the community as well as the region the charity serves.

“For more than 30 years now we’ve been brightening the lives of patients as well as supporting lifesaving public health services,” Tanya said.

“Our volunteers provide a wonderful service – a buggy ride from the carpark at Townsville University Hospital through to a cup of tea to patients in the Cancer Centre. If you’re feeling a bit lost getting around, visitors know to look out for the volunteers in the yellow shirts.

“In addition to that we work hand-in-hand with the community to fundraise for equipment, training, research and facilities. This allows us to provide funding to facilities across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service – including at Palm Island and Magnetic Island, north to Cardwell, south to Home Hill and west to Richmond.

“We did a survey earlier this year which found that most people didn’t know that we serve this wider region. The new name is just one step in sharing this message.”

Tanya said that COVID-19 has had an impact on the charity.

“We suspended most of our volunteer services in March and while we have many volunteers back now, we are not back to pre-COVID levels yet.

“From a fundraising perspective we rely very heavily on community events and none of these have taken place. We’re hoping people will jump online, take a look at our new website and perhaps buy a raffle ticket or join up to the Brighter Lives Rays of Sunshine Club by making a monthly donation.

“Whether it’s $1 or $1000, every donation helps make a real, positive impact. Plus, you know that we’re a 100% local charity so any donation will stay here,” Tanya said.

The new name and brand will be launched at Townsville University Hospital today and the new website will be available from mid-morning at www.brighterlives.org.au.
