Dancers make a difference for sick kids

A group of local dancers have made a difference for sick kids at Townsville University Hospital by fundraising for a PlayStation with virtual reality capabilityTownsville Dance On hosts rock’n’roll classes at the Jubilee Bowls Club and social events at the Cutheringa Bowls Club each week.

Townsville Dance On committee member Elaine Tuesley said, “Our ticket prices are really low – only $5 for classes and $10 for social events – but even so we have been able to build up a bit of a surplus over the last two years. 

“Our committee Chrissy and Kevin Douglas, Chrissie and Harry Rallis and Ray Richards decided that we wanted to give these funds back to the community. We reached out to Dr Harry Stalewski. He suggested a PlayStation with virtual reality for kids who are undergoing treatment for nasty things like burns and changing dressings.

“That really resonated with us, it’s such a terrible thing for children to have to go through,” Elaine said.

Townsville Hospital Foundation CEO Tanya Busoli welcomed the contribution. “This is a great example of a little bit of fundraising over time making a positive impact for patients. You don’t have to be a big group with a lot of money to make a difference.”
